My Autobiographical Record CollectionSo I've had this idea for awhile now. Not quite having the guts to organize my records autobiographically, I'm autobiographically organizing them on this fine interweb. Each week I hope to add five new records, starting from the 5"s on up through LPs. There are no sections for particular sizes, everything is mashed up and spit out in the order in which I acquired each piece. I will try to add little bits about some individual records. Enjoy. |

Black Flag-TV Party 7" (Spring 2002) |
Ahh, memories! One of the first records I ever got, I was so stoked to be picking this up. When I got it I didn't realize that it was a big hole 7" and I had no adapter. I was pissed but I fashioned an adapter out of cardboard. It kind of worked but it also kind of caused a minor scratch at the beginning of the record. Live and learn. Somebody once told me that you can just lay them down without an adapter and play them that way. I've never tried it though. |
Blue Meanies-Urine Trouble 7" (Fall 2002) |
During my first semester of school in Boston I lived within a five minute walk of five record stores (and one CD store). Sadly, only two still remain. I got this at Smash City Records in an awesome 4 for $1.00 bin! The scan doesn't really look like the 7" does in person, in real life the silkscreen job is much more beautiful. I think the cover is hilarious and I love that this was recorded live in my hometown, Austin, TX. |
Blues Meanies/MU330 split 7" (Fall 2002) |
I got this in that same 4 for $1.00 deal mentioned above. |
Melt-Banana-666 6" (12/04/2002) |
I got this with my first wholesale order ever, from Ebullition, ordered on December 4, 2002. I was just starting out with an eBay distro and was a little unsure of how well things would go. I would just barely meet the minimum order requirements, ordering only two copies of each item, totally just over $50. At this point, each item I ordered was something that I wanted for my personal collection plus an extra that I could pawn off on eBay. This way, worst case scenario, I would end up with $25 worth of stuff I wanted and lose out on only $25 worth of doubles. But holy fuck, Melt-Banana, one of my favorite bands ever at this point, releasing what I saw as a novel as fuck 6" record! Totally rad! |
The Locust/Jenny Piccolo split 5" (2/27/2003) |
This came with my second wholesale order from Ebullition. I was certainly unimpressed with the old Locust sound, as I got into them through tracks off of their s/t LP and 7". But the Jenny Piccolo side made up for it and I still wanted to collect every Locust record. Fairly new to record collecting, I was so into picture discs at this point. This was back before I knew that picture discs were supposed to sound crappy and be uncool, certainly far less cool than one-sided screen printed records. Fuck all that noise, VIVA LA PICTURE DISC! |
Black Eyes-Some Boys 7" (Spring 2003?) |
I really don't remember when I got this. I'm just guessing that I got it at the Punk Rock Flea Market. $3.00, not bad! |
Angel Hair 7" (12/03/2003) |
I got this beauty with an order from Mordam Records (back before the whole Lumberjack fiasco). This record really got me into the whole screamo thing that we all know and love so much. I was super psyched that this 7" came with sheet music, I mean really, who does that? |
Belle and Sebastian-I'm a Cuckoo 7" (Winter/Spring 2004) |
I prefer 12" singles, why'd I buy this? |
Waifle/The Anasazi split 5" (7/26/2004) |
I got this from Mr. Brent Eyestone in a Magic Bullet wholesale order. A slick little 5" on neat orange vinyl, what's not to love? Ohh, wait, maybe the fact that each side has only like three seconds of music on it. Ohh well, being a record collector these days inherently means appreciating novelties, which I most certainly do. |
Black Castle/Piedmont Charisma split 7" (Summer 2004) |
I forgot how cool the Piedmont Charisma side was until I just listened to it while adding it to here. |
Bathtub Shitter-Lifetime Shitlist EP 7" (Spring 2005) |
I remember thumbing through the 7"s at Regeneration, minding my own business, when out of the blue popped this little beauty. I'd heard of Bathtub Shitter before, but never actually listened to them. It was $3.00 so I figured why not? I fell in love with it and emailed the band shortly after. Following some trades and such we arranged for me to put out the full-length on vinyl. |
Bathtub Shitter-97+3 Shit Points 7" (Spring 2005) |
I got a wholesale order straight from Japan from these guys, including this gem and the following two. |
Bathtub Shitter/Fertilizer 7" (Spring 2005) |
See above. |
Bathtub Shitter-One Fun 7" (Spring 2005) |
See two above. |
Usurp Synapse/Rep Seki split 5" (Summer of 2005?) |
Anoter acquisition purchased off of Mr. Brent Eyestone. This one I got from him off of eBay though. I like the jams OK but I am really fond of the Rep Seki side's artwork. A little corny maybe but aren't we all? |
Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Enemy Soil split 7" (Summer of 2005?) |
I remember buying this at Regeneration Records and being in a car with some people on the way home. I actually hardly ever listen to this record, maybe I should sell it. Fuck. |
